Francis Imbuga and John Sibi Okumu – Playwrights discuss ‘Life after Betrayal?’

Sunday 3rd October 2pm-3:30pm
Betrayal in the City remains recognisable to many Kenyans as the standard bearer of the country’s playwriting and as a set text for high school students. Yet, it was written in 1976, thirty-four years ago. Has there been theatrical life after Betrayal in the City? What theatrical activity preceded it and has nothing of worth happened since?

John Sibi-Okumu, himself an actor, director and playwright, will engage a panel including Professor Francis Imbuga, the play’s author and Dr. Mshai Mwangola, currently chairperson of the governing council of the Kenya Cultural Centre and Kenya National Theatre, on this and related issues.
