Well Read Santa – Start-a-Library

Start a LibraryIt’s that season again for making merry, spreading joy and cheer and thanking God for the year past. It’s that time of year again that you get together with your friends and colleagues and collect your old clothes, buy foodstuff and spend time in a children’s home before breaking off for Christmas.

This year however the Start-a-Library initiative under Storymoja appeals to you to make your gift bag for under privileged children different. Select one of the following book packages or donate money for an individual book.

  • Bronze (2,000 KES) worth 5 storybooks
  • Silver (4,000 KES) worth 11 storybooks
  • Gold (6,800 KES) worth 19 storybooks
  • Platinum (12,800 KES) worth 36 storybooks
  • Diamond Packs (60,000 KES) worth 200 storybooks

Your donations can be transferred via MPESA to 0728 285 021 (our agent for Storymoja is called Moses Kaithya) or online (www.startalibrary.org) and will be used to buy Kenyan storybooks for libraries in the four following schools.

  • Kawangware Primary School
  • Arya Primary School in Ngara
  • Gramo Joy Pre & Primary School in Mukuru Kwa Njenga Slums
  • Bridge International Academy in Sinai

We also invite you and your friends to attend the opening ceremony of the school library benefiting from your donation in January 2013. Please contact the ‘Start a Library’ team (Email: startalibrary@storymojaafrica.co.ke) to signal your interest.

Start-a-Library is aimed at exciting children about reading for pleasure, and nurturing a generation of creative thinkers. A reading nation is a thinking nation, and Start-a-Library wants to kick-start this by providing primary schools with storybook; the kind of books that will whet their appetite for books, and have them fall in love with reading.

This Christmas give a child something that will last a lifetime, a book, a gateway to an imagination through which the child will grow into whatever s/he dares to believe he can.
