Zebra Crossing

This is where I have the freedom
It is where I can be contained
It is where I can test the patience of them motorists
It is where I can smile at their impatient hoots
At the zebra crossing!

You need to know this game,
This dirty game
Isn’t yours alone
You are misleading
and I know in other places
In other times…situations,
I can never make myself seen,
Let me talk.

I will cross the way I want
Curse, and say I’m arrogant
But how else can you know I exist?
This is my time
I will cross the way I want

You have the rest of the road…
What I claim  is just peace
As I use my six or so feet
It is what I own of the road
And it is what I’ll use
To fight to get noticed
And like a lion I’ll roar here
Like a snail I’ll cross
You must know I exist!

Indeed, they must know you exist!
More importantly, you must fight to claim what’s truly yours – the rest comes pretty easy after that!
