I Want My Freedom

Written by Eric Gichira

For the sake of my pains

I want freedom from chains;

For the sake of my future

I want freedom from torture

Freedom from fractured bones

And freedom from red zones;

Freedom from bombed cars

And freedom from battle scars

Freedom from physical languish

And freedom from emotional anguish;

Freedom from haunting screams

And freedom from bloody streams

I just want my freedom

In every nation or kingdom;

And not just for one season

But for more than one reason

Should my wishes be unmet

Still I know I won’t fret;

I’ll find somewhere to stand

And there, my freedom I’ll demand…

But as for now:

I want my freedom!
